Free registration for the event is <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSdF8LcQi_id7LAxWLSIDHLxrI_CYEbLZ40A3Pyc4YaQl6Xtwg\/viewform\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We are absolutely thrilled that this year\u2019s keynote is <a href=\"https:\/\/soe.syr.edu\/about\/directory\/marcelle-haddix\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dr. Marcelle Haddix<\/a>. The title of her presentation is: \u201cAre You Ready for Black Future Month? On Education, Possible Futures, and the Black Imagination.\u201d<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In addition to Dr. Haddix\u2019s presentation, we will have a set of smaller spaces in the colloquium for intentional dialogue, for designing, and for dreaming. These events are co-created by Nicole Mirra and Antero Garcia.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Why Another Colloquium?<\/em><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because things aren\u2019t better.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because \u201cbetter\u201d isn\u2019t good enough when the purpose is freedom.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because education still isn\u2019t about dreaming.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because the tools we have for this educational world are not just insufficient, they are designed for altogether different purposes than the educational world we are co-creating.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because stimulus checks and vaccines don\u2019t cure colonialism.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because we\u2019re tired of \u201callyship\u201d and \u201cfragility\u201d and \u201cmindsets.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because when do teachers and teacher educators and educational researchers actually center love and healing in their work?<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because how can you <em>not<\/em> center love and healing in a moment when more than half a million people are not with us as a result of willful, governmental negligence in the face of global pandemic?<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because, if we\u2019re being honest, we don\u2019t really know what NFTs are.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/10d8f5e8-74eb-11ea-95fe-fcd274e920ca\">portals<\/a> we were promised a year ago have gone nowhere.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because, even as we write this, schools have fully embraced \u201cthe new normal.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because \u201cthe new normal\u201d is just \u201cthe old normal\u201d with a new adjective.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because, even though Zoom boxes are unfulfilling, they bring us that much closer to an analog connection with each other.<\/p>\r\n<p>Because Black lives matter.<\/p>\r\n<p>Because we also went to all of the amazing online talks and events over the past year and the world still doesn&#8217;t look much rosier.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because your webcam and your Facebook account and your doorbell are all probably spying on you.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because we are far too aware that dreaming is not simply a tool wielded for good and that white supremacist dreaming helped motivate ongoing violence in this country including insurrection and state-perpetuated murder of Black people.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because \u201clearning loss,\u201d \u201creading gaps,\u201d and standardized testing.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/policeviolencereport.org\/\">1,127 other people killed by the police in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because we are not on the verge of climate catastrophe.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because we are in the midst of climate catastrophe.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because our children are going \u201cback\u201d and there&#8217;s not a clear timeline of if or when they might be vaccinated.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-rEx8acvIWg\">if we do it again, I\u2019m gonna freak out<\/a> (so do it again).<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because we are still here.<\/p>\r\n<p>Because last year had a lot of tomorrows and yet we are still <em>here<\/em>.<\/p>\r\n<p>Because there are a lot of us that refuse to relinquish hope.<\/p>\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Because we have here and and we have now and we have each
