I think it was one of a series of discs I made for Ally during her lengthy LA commutes at the time. A fitting title for a collection of songs for daydreaming in traffic (the rest of the disc was real hit or miss, but included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=upEkQn1XaLM\">this cover song<\/a>, which I&#8217;d forgotten about&#8230;and no, we didn&#8217;t name one of our children after the band Luna).<\/li>\n<li>I loved the audacity of a mid-\u201890s shoegaze band naming their <em>album&#8211;Giant<\/em> Steps&#8211;after one of the inarguably best jazz albums of all time. It\u2019s most widely seen as a similar move to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Let_It_Be_(The_Replacements_album)\">naming your album after a Beatles&#8217; classic<\/a>. But I usually think of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Shape_of_Punk_to_Come\">this<\/a> too.<\/li>\n<li>The cacophonous build-up\/breakdown at the end of this song. The apocalyptic, kitchen-sink sink approach. It\u2019s a micro-genre in and of itself. I imagine the ending of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_7xMfIp-irg\">All You Need is Love<\/a>\u201d was probably the first time I heard it as a rhetorical move in a pop song (the self-referential refrain from \u201cShe Loves You\u201d that fades out was also likely the first post-modern pop moment in my upbringing too, come to think of it).
