Sandbox Pt. 2

Completing the sandbox sketch from the previous post. I realize many of these terms sound “buzzy” in isolation. The problem with creating a new tool set out of a dated mode of discourse is that there is no “new” word that can be inserted. Graeber is left with joining (sometimes rather uncomfortably) words in ways that find liberation in the greased joints and corners of un-hyphenation (was that supposed to be hyphenated??). These joined words are not meant to be slogans, even in me isolating them here.

“Totalizing system” (page 43)
“Revolutionary action” (page 45)
“Revolutionary ‘exodus’” (page 60) – is “engaged withdrawl”
“Institutionalized raiding” (page 65)
The State as “imaginary totality” (page 65)
“Global citizenship” (page 68)
Temporary Autonomy Zones” (page 74)
“Consensus process” (page 85)
“Liberation in the imaginary” (Page 102)

  1. Nemesis

as andy tries to trick us into reading more books, i found some reviews of two books mentioned by our fearless leader. one of them was lamenting the book and this is what he had to say.

    one of the reviews:
“I’m not a huge fan of Bookchin and personally find the whole social vs. lifestyle anarchism debate to be tiresome and odious (from both ideological perspectives), but *please*. This book rewards those who use radical politics to make themselves feel special and different while being nearly inaccessable to most of the people who are in the direst need of honest-to-god social change. It’s narcissistic, bougeois, elitist, and utterly, utterly useless.

I am much more interested in figuring out how to get food and health care to people who have none than in sitting around burning copies of the New York Times and congratulating myself for being a flaming angel of wild delicate heresy. While arguably an important read, as Bey has obviously influenced everyone from Kalle Lasn to the people who founded Burning Man, it’s totally unworkable as a blueprint for creating a more just society.”

    MY Question is:
do these people really think a blue print is going to just fall from the sky.
this is what i understand to be the need in a “liberation in the imaginary”, make your own damn blue print!!! stop waiting for someone to provide you with one! or as someone more eloquently put it once, “be the change…”
